While most buyers are distracted by flashy SUVs and feature-loaded personal cars, Hyundai has silently launched two vehicles built for one brutal reality—maximum profit per kilometre. Meet the Hyundai Prime HB and Prime SD, factory-built fleet models designed to dominate India’s commercial mobility space.
Based on the Grand i10 Nios (Prime HB) and Aura (Prime SD), these new Prime variants are not cosmetic trims. They are purpose-built commercial machines, engineered to survive high-mileage abuse while keeping operating costs brutally low.
Built Only for Fleet, Built Only to Work
Hyundai has made one thing clear: these cars are not for private buyers. The Prime HB and Prime SD are available exclusively for commercial registration, targeting taxi operators, ride-hailing fleets, and corporate mobility providers.
Both models come with a factory-fitted CNG powertrain, eliminating aftermarket compromises and ensuring long-term reliability. Under the hood is Hyundai’s trusted 1.2-litre Kappa four-cylinder engine, producing 69 PS and 95.2 Nm in CNG mode, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Mileage figures underline Hyundai’s intent:
- Prime HB: 27.32 km/kg
- Prime SD: 28.40 km/kg
For fleet owners, this translates into an estimated running cost of just 47 paise per kilometre—a number that directly attacks diesel and EV economics in city operations.
Six Airbags in a Fleet Car? Hyundai Just Changed the Game
In a move that could embarrass much costlier private cars, both Prime models come with six airbags as standard. This isn’t optional. This isn’t variant-dependent.
Hyundai has also included rear parking sensors and an 80 km/h speed limiter, reinforcing safety for urban and highway fleet use. Comfort hasn’t been ignored either. Standard equipment includes power windows, central locking, rear AC vents, and steering-mounted audio controls.
The Prime HB goes a step further with rear adjustable headrests and keyless entry—features rarely prioritized in commercial vehicles.
Optional Tech That Fleet Owners Actually Want
Hyundai understands fleet economics better than most. That’s why it offers optional features instead of forcing unnecessary costs:
- 9-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity
- Rear parking camera
- Vehicle tracking device with panic buttons
Operators can choose exactly what improves utilization and safety—nothing more.
Space, Warranty, and Long-Term Ownership
Despite CNG tank placement, both cars retain usable luggage space:
- Prime HB: ~260 litres
- Prime SD: ~405 litres
Each vehicle comes with a 3-year standard warranty, extendable up to 5 years or 1,80,000 km, a crucial advantage for high-usage fleets.
Available in Atlas White, Typhoon Silver, and Abyss Black, bookings are now open at Hyundai dealerships with dedicated commercial advisors.
Why This Launch Matters More Than It Looks
Hyundai isn’t chasing headlines here. It’s chasing fleet dominance. By combining CNG efficiency, six airbags, and ultra-low running costs, the Prime HB and Prime SD quietly reset expectations in the commercial car segment.
Private buyers may never see these cars. Fleet operators absolutely will—and many rivals won’t like what they see.
